Art has always been a large part of my life. When I was younger I learned that drawing really helped my to de-stress and essentially take a time out from everything going on. As an adult, I have to remember to purposely take time out and do something creative, whether it be crochet, reading, writing, or art of some kind. I’ve found that if I can commit time each day (or at least a few times a week) to my creativity, I do better as a mom, wife, nurse, and person. Recently I’ve learned about something incredibly fun that totally piqued my creative interest- coloring books for adults! Don’t get me wrong, because while I’m cool with coloring Mickey Mouse and Jake and the Pirates, I was so excited to try out one for adults! I was sent “Coloring Dream Mandalas” by Wendy Piersall.
When it came in the mail I went through all of my college art supplies and found some of my best coloring pencils and got to work.
Each page is in mandala form- circular with repetitive shapes and lines. Every picture has a different type of focus or theme, although each one is very dreamlike.
Each design was so intricate that when coloring I found that I could completely relax and just focus on the moment at hand, and totally give myself that mental break or escape that I need with higher anxiety. It was just a super nice moment for myself (even if there may or may not have been three precious little boys tearing the house apart!).
I also learned that each image is hand drawn by Wendy, an artist with over 17 years of profession design experience. “Coloring Dream Mandalas” has 30 unique images, but Wendy also has two other coloring books for adults already available (“Coloring Animal Mandalas” and “Coloring Flower Mandalas”), and another book, “Coloring Ocean Mandalas” due out this fall that I’m pretty excited about!
I’m really looking forward to receiving Wendy’s next book, but in the meantime, be sure to check out all of Wendy’s coloring books for adults on her website. Grab one for yourself and keep it handy to relax, focus on a higher state of mindfulness, and just have fun creating some beautiful artwork!
